Born in Birmingham, England, Withey moved to South Australia in 2004. After earning a degree in illustration, he began working as an artist since 2007.

Withey’s practice blends graphic art, storytelling, and patterning to explore boundaries between imagination and reality, inner life and public identity. Working mainly in acrylics, along with ink and pencil, he creates vivid, surreal compositions that range from domestic scenes to fantastical dreamscapes.

His work often shifts between abstraction and figuration, marked by humour and existential undertones. Favouring clean lines, flat colours, and intricate detail, Withey constructs spatially complex scenes rich with recurring motifs such as birds, cats, robots, rainbows, nature, and symbols of renewal.
