“Rebuilding the paddocks in the aftermath of the fire, clearing fallen trees, fences, and roads. Lots of stock is lost, but It’s just another of life’s curveballs, especially when your life is on the land.”

Bundy grew up in the outback and these experiences continue to inform his artworks. Art came to him late in life after ill-health, and has helped him to heal. An outsider artist, Bundy’s works explores outback life, mental health and themes of acceptance. In 2023 Bundy was a finalist in the SALA Advertiser Contemporary Art Prize.

The blue badge on my hat and the pink swirl of paint on my palette represent mens mental health, and breast cancer, both issues close to my heart.

I worked in the outback until recently. Years ago I had a bet with the local wool balers Bachelor and Spinsters Committee to wear a pink shirt to the ball. I haven’t stopped since and wear the pink shirt everywhere even to  art class. Life can be dark, so I find colour where I can.

This painting is a symbol of my new path in life, forced to leave the outback by injury – I’ve swapped grease splatters on my shirt for paint splatters.
